About The Course
INCEPTION
The Department of Psychology was established in the year 1999, as an undergraduate department. Since, its inception the Department has played an important role in nurturing the talents of the students. M.Sc Applied Psychology is being offered from 2021.
OBJECTIVE
- To enable students to acquire deeper knowledge of psychology, understand the intricacies of human development and behaviour, appreciate the social dimension and cultural aspects of behaviour and develop themselves personally and professionally.
- To cultivate empathy and sensitivity towards psychological aspects in dealing with every day issues and gain theoretical and practical knowledge in emerging fields in psychology.
- To familiarize the students with applications of psychological principles in different applied areas of Psychology.
- To prepare students for professional fields of psychology in general and, specifically, in the field of Counselling Psychology.
- To familiarize students with research methods within their scientific field

OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER AND PLACEMENT
- Students can opt to work in hospitals, clinics, de-addiction centres, corporate companies, schools, colleges, special schools and therapy centres.
- The Placement cell of the college offers 100% placement to all those who are interested in working after completion of the course.
LABORATORY
The laboratory is equipped with high quality equipment such as Bhatia’s Battery of Performance Test of Intelligence, Bender Gestalt Test, NEO Personality Inventory, Seguin Form Board, Ergograph, Raven’s Progressive Matrices, Tachistoscope, Mirror Drawing Apparatus, Multi-Dimensional Health Profile, MBTI to name a few.
LIBRARY
The central library has around 800 books and three journals and the department library has over 280 books and 400 project reports which are issued to students for reference.
ACTIVITIES
The Department organizes several activities outside the classroom to motivate students and encourages them to hone their skills. It also believes in exposing them to lectures from a variety of resource persons.
A Report of the Activities of 2020-2021
International Conference
Organized a two day International Conference on "The New Normal Psychological Perspectives” on March 26 & 27, 2021. 142 research papers were presented in 14 parallel sessions.
Webinars Organized
Organized a webinar on Enhancing Interpersonal Skills by Dr. Maya Rathnasabapathy, Associate Professor in Psychology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai on May 30, 2020.
Organized a webinar on Emotional Competencies for Crisis Management by Dr. Seena M. Mathai, Assistant Professor in Psychology, Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala on June 20, 2020
Book Release
A book Transitions that was brought out by the department was released by Dr. T Lavanya, Professor & Head, Department of Psychology, University of Madras.

Club Activity
The Intra Psyche Club organized an online quiz PsyQuiz in July 2020 in which 1183 participants from India and abroad participated.

Two lectures were organized for the final year students
- Dr. Malathi Karthiban, Counselling Psychologist, Anna Adarsh College on Challenges in Counselling on August 17, 2021.
- Ms.Nandini Raman, Chennai Counsellors Foundation on “Ethics in Counselling” on 03 February, 2021.

Dr. Ragitha Radhakrishnan was awarded as one among the Top 50 Outstanding Faculties from Arts & Science Colleges across India for the year 2019 by uLektz
Dr. Ragitha Radhakrishnan has been a resource person for fourteen webinars/conferences/training programs and Ms. N Datchyaayane was a resource person for webinar on “Mental Health” organized by Marginalized People Charitable Trust on June 12, 2021
Dr. Ragitha Radhakrishnan has presented five research papers in National and International conferences, has completed 12 MOOCs on Coursera platform and has been selected as a reviewer for a SCOPUS indexed journal Journal of Critical Reviews

Gayathri Parthasarathy of III BSc Psychology is the recipient of Lev Vygotsky Student Award from REPRC and Golden Crown Awards for the field of Social Science in 2020
Fazilath A of I BSc Psychology is the recipient of Gordon Allport Student Award by REPRC
Gayathri Parthasarathy of III BSc Psychology has published two book chapters in books with ISBN and one magazine article. She has completed NPTEL course on human behavior from IIT Guwahati and volunteers with Evidyaloka, Tamilnadu, Environmental Foundation of India, Alert NGO and Aware NGO. She is social media manager at Pracharam and undergraduate research assistant at Antahkarana group and has completed two certification programs.
Pavithra. K of III BSc Psychology volunteers with a group called 3G School of Applied Psychology and has completed online courses from Applied Forensic Research Science, Harvard Medical School, WHO, UNICEF, Chennai Counselling Services and two courses on Coursera.
Thatchayini Kalidoss of III BSc Psychology has volunteered as a tutor for children at Balamandir Kamaraj Trust for Children, T Nagar and published an article in Aval Vikatan Publications. She has completed NPTEL course on Human Resources Management from IIT Kharagpur
Kavya Karthikeyan of III BSc Psychology has presented a research paper in the International Virtual Seminar on 'Stand up for Human Rights' conducted by VIT Chennai, is the Learning Circle Lead at U&I, and got selected to be a Research Associate with LonePack NGO.
Gunjan Pandey of III BSc Psychology has won the 2nd prize in State level in Heartfullness Essay Event 2020 organized by Sri Ram Chandra Mission and 2nd prize in Essay competition conducted by the Department of English Language Studies, Madurai Kamraj University.
Smruthi Bakkiyaraj, Vishnupriya VV and Gayathri P of III BSc Psychology have completed Diploma on theatre arts for holistic development from RASA.
R. Lacsana of III BSc Psychology volunteers with a group called Mindselo, has completed online courses from The Open University, Alison, UNICEF and Applied Forensic Research Science. She has also presented a paper in an international conference.
Vishnupriya V V of III BSc Psychology has participated in various quiz competitions and won 1st place in Elysium- poem writing competition conducted by Dept of Psychology, MES College Marapally
Sahana Sai Raghuraman of III BSc Psychology has volunteered for NGOs Bhumi, EFI and Blood Donor Connect and completed a certificate course with SCARF Chennai on Psychosocial Rehabilitation
Pavithra D of III BSc Psychology has won 2nd prize in photography and Angelin T J of I BSc Psychology won 3rd place in pencil sketching in event conducted by Chinmay Club of Department of Psychology, M.O.P Vaishnav College.
S. Indhumathi of II B.Sc Psychology has completed "Child Psychology course" accredited by The International Association of Therapists and "Psychological First Aid" on Coursera.
Angelin Shruthi of II B.Sc Psychology has won the second place in poetry in the Pre-Conference competition conducted by Stella Maris College and has published two of her poems in ISBN anthologies.
U. Tharikaa of II BSc Psychology volunteered with RSS women's wing during the pandemic and completed Diploma course in Human Resource Management from Alison.

Fazilath A of I BSc Psychology won Best Speaker Award in debate organized by 3G School of Psychology, was a speaker for psychometric assessment topic jobs and scopes of psychometric assessment and won special prize in 10th INSPA poster making competition & is head for Artificial intelligence internship in 3G School of psychology
Shobika S of I BSc Psychology won 3rd place in Theatre Thespian, cultural event conducted by MOP Vaishnav College
