Student Centric Methods

Dr. MGR-Janaki College employs student-centric methods that focus on actively engaging students in their own learning process, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and independent inquiry.

1. Active Learning : The faculty members encourage activities that require students to actively participate in the learning process, such as group discussions, debates, case studies, role-playing, and problem-solving exercises.

2. Project-Based Learning (PBL) : Assign projects that allow students to explore topics in depth, conduct research, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. PBL promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning. Some programs have project as a part of the curriculum whereas in other programs, students take up mini projects to gain better understanding of the subject matter.

3. Flipped Classroom : Some classrooms are conducted by flipping the traditional classroom model by having students review course materials (e.g., readings, videos, lectures) outside of class and use class time for discussions, group activities, and hands-on exercises. This approach enables students to engage with content at their own pace and seek clarification as needed.

4. Inquiry-Based Learning : The faculty members encourage students to ask questions, investigate topics of interest, and seek answers through research and experimentation. We provide guidance and resources to support their inquiry process while fostering curiosity and problem-solving skills.

5. Collaborative Learning : The college fosters collaboration among students by organizing group projects, study groups, and peer learning activities. Collaboration promotes teamwork, communication skills, and the exchange of ideas and perspectives.

6. Experiential Learning : We provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience through industrial visits, field trips, service-learning projects, and practical assignments. Experiential learning helps students connect theory with practice and develop valuable skills applicable to their future careers.

7. Compulsory Internship Program : The college implements a structured internship program during the second year that requires all students to gain practical experience in their field of study. We partner with organizations, businesses, research institutions, or community agencies to provide diverse internship opportunities relevant to students' interests and career aspirations. The departments have signed MoUs with various organizations to ensure smooth functioning of the internship program.

8. Reflective Practice : Encourage students to reflect on their learning experiences, articulate their thoughts and insights, and assess their progress toward learning goals. Incorporate reflective activities such as journals, portfolios, and self-assessments to promote metacognitive skills and continuous improvement.

9. Student Feedback and Assessment : The college solicits feedback from students regularly to assess their learning experiences, preferences, and challenges. We use diverse assessment methods such as peer evaluation, self-assessment, and authentic assessments (e.g., portfolios, presentations) to evaluate student learning comprehensively and provide constructive feedback for growth.

10. Community Engagement and Impact : Emphasize the importance of community engagement and social responsibility through internships that involve working with local organizations, non-profits, or community initiatives. Encourage students to reflect on the broader impact of their work and consider ethical implications in their field of study.
