INCEPTION
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1996.
OBJECTIVES
- Commerce emphasizes on addressing real-life business issues where students are exposed to case studies and specific problems drawn from the industry which serves as the backdrop, necessary to face the challenges of the business world. Students are given practical classes in which they have to make thorough analysis of the theories they have been taught.
- To nurture students with the intellectual, personal and societal skills along with ethical moral and spiritual values for a holistic education. Graduates will be able to pursue higher education and take-up jobs in the field of Commerce

The Department organizes several activities outside the classroom to motivate students and encourages them to hone their skills. It also believes in exposing them to lectures from several resource persons
BRIDGE COURSE
The Bridge Course offered to the 1 year students details on CBCS syllabus pattern which includes core subjects, electives and soft skills. Various facilities available in the college for curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and details regarding career opportunities after graduation, competitive exam training and job opportunities through placement are explained.
Certificate Course
Basic Concepts of Portfolio” certificate course for a duration of 30 hours is offered in the 3rd semester

International Seminar on “Entrepreneurship and Business Intelligence'' was held on 26-08-2022.The resource person was Mr. K.E. Raghunathan, Social Entrepreneur, Convener – Consortium of Indian Associations, Board of Trustee – EPFO, Advisory Board Member - BYST, National AICTE Internship Committee Member, Former National President AIMO, Advisory Committee Member TNERC. The resource person was Mr.S.J. Narayanan, FC Associate & Ambassador Trainer Amazon, Canada.
Workshops
State level Workshop on “Financial Literacy” was held on 23.08.2022. The resource person was Mr.Francis Felix Joseph,Financial Education Counsellor, ICICI Foundation for inclusive growth, Chennai.
Workshop on “Women Financial Empowerment” was held on 09.09.2022. The resource person was Mr.Suresh Kumar, Associate Director - Zebu Shares and Wealth Management, Chennai.
State level Workshop on“Financial Literacy and Empowerment” was held on 31.01.2023. The resource person were Ms.VidhyaShivakumar, Co-founder of team Ubuntu, Ms.GowriRamachandran, Partner, Team Ubuntu and Ms.AarthiParameswaran, Professional Educator, Ubantu, Chennai.
Workshop on‘‘Professional Makeup Artist’’ was held on 15.07.2022 . The resource person was Ms.Shalini,Youtuber and Makeup Stylist.
