About The Course

  INCEPTION

  • The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1996.

OBJECTIVE

  • The objective of the department is to nurture students with the intellectual, personal and societal skills along with ethical moral and spiritual values for a holistic education. Graduates will be able to pursue higher education and take-up jobs in the field of Commerce.
  • The subjects in Commerce place special emphasis on addressing real-life business issues where students are exposed to case studies and specific problems drawn from the industry which serves as the backdrop, necessary to face the challenges of the business world. Students are given practical classes in which they have to make thorough analysis of the theories they have been taught.

A Report of the Activities of 2019-20

CERTIFICATE COURSE 

  • The Department offers a 20-hour course on Emerging Trends in E-Commerce for second year students.

SEMINAR

  • A State Level Seminar on ‘Industry 4.0 – Change to transform’ was organized on 6 February 2020. Dr.P.G.Babu, Director, Madras Institute of Development Studies inaugurated the seminar. And Mr.Babu Krishnamoorthy, Founder and Chief Sherpa, Finsherpa Investment Services delivered the key note address.



GUEST LECTURES

  • Dr.Reena R, Head, Department of Commerce, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore delivered a Guest lecture on the topic “Indian Business Scenario and the Need for Entrepreneurship” .



INDUSTRIAL VISIT

  • The students were taken to the Chennai Port Trust as part of the Industrial Visit, to understand the mechanism of export and import.


DEPARTMENT MAGAZINE

  • The In-house magazine ‘Infocom’ was released by CA Sampath Kumar, Partner, M/S VVS Kumar & Co. on 24 January 2020.



CLUB ACTIVITIES

  • Club Activities took place throughout the year which includes debates, group discussion, product packaging, case study analysis, paper presentation etc. The ‘Investment Club’ Day was organized and the certificates for the prize winners of various club activities were distributed by Dr.V.C.Shanthi Lakshmi, Dean-Academics .



  • Inter-departmental competition in collaboration with the placement cell was held on the topic “wealth out of waste”. The prizes were distributed by Ms.Rajyashri Iraianbu, Director, Placement & Training.



CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB

  • The Citizen Consumer Club in association with Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu conducted a one day workshop on ‘Consumer Protection Act 2019’ .
  • Dr.J.Vijaya Thilagam, Assistant Commissioner, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, Mylapore Zone, Chennai and Mr.R.Nehemiah, Assistant Commissioner Civil Supplies Department, Thousand Light Zone, Chennai were the addressed the students.



INTERNSHIP

  • The students did their internship at Indian Overseas Bank, TNSC Bank, TVS Group of Companies, Vinayaga Finance Limited, Chola Investment and Finance Company, Venture power systems India Private Limited, Sundaram Finance and Hyundai Motor Company.

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • R.Fahima Sultana participated in a State Level Technical Workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ organized by Patrician College of Arts & Science, Chennai on 13th September 2019.
  • A.Kavitha Umapathy, was invited as the resource person by various colleges for career training programmes.
  • R.Fahima Sultana participated in a FDP on ‘Life Skill Development’, organized by Women’s Christian College, Chennai on 5thth October 2019.

 

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT

  • The II year B.Com students participated in the Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ conducted by Gurunank College.
  • The II year B.Com students won the second place in ADZAP conducted by SS Jain College
  • The III year B.Com students won the first place in MIME competition conducted by Gurunank College
  • The II year B.Com students participated in the Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ conducted by MOP Vaishnav College .
  • The III year B.Com students won the second place in Bouquet Making conducted by Anna Adarsh College.
  • The II year B.Com students won the prizes in “online event-MEME Creation” and “Connection” competition conducted by Dr.MGR Educational And Research Institute .
  • The II year B.Com students participated in the State Level Technical Workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ conducted by Patrician College.
  • The III year B.Com students won the prizes in Group Singing, Adzap, Channel Surfing, MIME and Bridal makeup conducted by Shashun Jain College .
  • The II year B.Com students won many prizes in paper presentation, connection, photography, case study, product innovation and poster making conducted by AnnaiVelankanni’s College for Women.
  • Vaitheeswari (II year B.Com) won the memorial award and a cash prize of Rs.5,000/- . Sandhya A (III year B.Com- Shift 2) won the cash prize of Rs.3,000/- for speech competition. She also bagged the best outgoing student with a cash award of 25,000/-
  • The I and II year B.Com students won the prize in Business Modules and Adzap conducted by The New College- Inter Collegiate Commerce Talent Meet on 4 February 2020.
  • The I year B.Com student won th1st Prize - Logical Memography conducted by S.S.Jain College on 22 February 2020.
