INCEPTION

• The Department of English was established on 28th August 1996. Since, its inception the Department has played an important role in nurturing the talents of the students. The PG degree (M.A. English) has been offered since 2015.

OBJECTIVE

• To mould students to be informed readers and creative writers and be participatory.
• To offer scope for  job opportunities in research, media, teaching, publishing and other sectors where language skills are required.
• To develop the capacity to appreciate and critically examine Literature and Language

DEPARTMENT LIBRARY AND LANGUAGE LAB

• A large collection of books are available in the library for the students and faculty. 
• The department uses many educational tools for the benefit of students. One such is the Language Lab which has 30 computers with required software.

ACTIVITIES:

SEMINAR-

• The department organizes seminars and conferences on interesting and current issues pertaining to the world of literature. Eminent academicians and authors and scholars are invited as resource persons to share their expertise.
  
• National Seminar on Myth: Seeking Meaning in the Modern World was held on August 1, 2019.

GUEST LECTURES:

• At the Postgraduate level, the department conducts guest lectures and workshops. Experts from different colleges and universities are invited and their expertise helps the students to get diverse perspectives of the subject. 
• Dr. Vasu, Assistant Professor, A.M. Jain College delivered a lecture on “Guiding students to Attempt UGC NET/SET Examination” on March 2nd 2020.

NEWSLETTER:

• A monthly newsletter .Period edited by the students is brought out by the department. The newsletter covers the various activities of the college and also provides space for creative writing,

ASSOCIATION

• The literary association of the Department Parnassus organises several inter- departmental competitions to encourage the creative expressions of students.

INTERNSHIP

• Students interned at Emerald Publishing house and also in Higher Secondary Schools which helps to develop and refine their language and teaching skills.

PROJECTS:

• For the PG students, research becomes the most essential part of their course which helps them build critical and independent thinking.

STUDENTS ACHIEVMENTS:

• Ms. Sarjana Suresh of II MA English won Second prize for “RJ Hunt” held at IIT Saarang, Chennai.
• She has also won First Place in the Talent Show organised by the Placement of our College.
• She won many prizes in Rhythm 2020 held at our college on 6th & 7th March 2020.
• First Prize in Channel Surfing and Block and Tackle
• Second Place in Light Music and Voice Over
• Third Place in Folk Dance and Theme Dance
• Won Miss Rhythm 2020 Title.

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS:

• Ms. N. Shamini published an article “Remaking Identity in A. Revathi’s Truth about Me : A Hijra life Story” on National Conference on English Language and Literature held on 10th February 2020, at Bharath Institute of higher Education and Research.
